Stevioside, also known as steviol glycosides, is a glycoside extracted from the leaves of the Asteraceae plant Stevia rebaudiana. It has the characteristics of high sweetness and low calorie content. Its sweetness is 200-300 times that of sucrose, and its calorie value is only 1/300 of sucrose. This natural sweetener has a taste similar to sucrose, but with a bitter and grassy taste.


At present, most stevia products are sold in the form of total glycosides (also known as crude sugar, which is a mixture of polysaccharides and stevia, some of which have a bitter aftertaste), and almost all consumers currently purchase this type of stevia.
