Arbutin Powder

Arbutin powder with the chemical formula of c12h16o7, is an ingredient extracted from the leaves of Rhododendron, which can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase in the body and prevent the generation of melanin, thereby reducing the deposition of skin pigment, removing spots and freckles, as well as bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects. It is mainly used in cosmetics.

Arbutin powder is a kind of high-end cosmetic ingredient. It`s a type of glycoside, and mainly has two isomers, alpha arbutin powder (optical rotation +174.0°～+184.0°) and beta arbutin powder (optical rotation -64°～-68°). Both α arbutin and β arbutin are white powder.

Researches show that alpha arbutin and beta arbutin may inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and prevent the synthesis of melanin. So they are mainly used in cosmetics for skin whitening.

Alpha arbutin is more than 10 times stronger than beta arbutin and alpha arbutin has better stability than beta arbutin. Alpha arbutin is stable in temperature up to 100℃, while beta arbutin is unstable when the temperature is over 60℃. In solvents with PH value 5.2-8.0, alpha arbutin still has good activity, while beta arbutin is partially inactive.

D-arbutin is one of the derivatives of arbutin, called d-arbutin, which can effectively inhibit the effect of tyraminase in skin tissues. According to the research, its potency is even 10 times that of hydroquinone and 350 times that of general arbutin. In animal skin tests, this d-arbutin can quickly and effectively whiten the skin, and the effect can still be maintained for nearly 8 weeks after stopping using.

★ arbutin is easy to decompose in acidic environment. Pay attention to the pH control of cream emulsion and other systems at 5-7;

★ dissolve arbutin in a small amount of water at 50 ℃, and add it at 50 ℃ after the cream is emulsified;

★ add an appropriate amount of antioxidants to the cosmetic system to prevent discoloration;

★ after emulsifying the cream, add NaHSO3 and Na2SO3 dissolved in a small amount of water at 50 ℃ (the recommended amount is 0.3-0.4%);

★ adding natural vegetable oil containing oleic acid and linoleic acid can promote the synergistic effect of arbutin;

★ adding 0.8 -1.0% azone to the cosmetic system can promote the absorption of arbutin and prevent the precipitation of arbutin on the skin.
